CMP Asia, the major donor for a school building project in Thailand, celebrated the opening of the school on 4 May. By providing new school buildings, books and other learning materials and equipment, the project aims to help to rehabilitate children who were psychologically traumatised due to the 2004 tsunami.
About 100 school children aged from 4 to 12 in the Khao Lak area of Phang-nga province, one of the most affected regions of the tsunami disaster, have now resumed their studies in the bright new school buildings. Michael Duck, Senior Vice President of CMP Asia represented the company at the opening.
"It's wonderful to see their smiles and bring some hope back into their lives. We are pleased that CMP Asia has the opportunity to assist these children by providing them with a proper place to learn so that they can try to re-start their lives after the terrible loss of family and friends," said Michael Duck.
CMP Asia donated US$30,000 to the Sarojin Khao Lak Community Fund that provides support to many in the Khao Lak area who suffered from the severe damage caused by the tsunami disaster of December 2004 in Thailand.
