Jimé Essink – President & Chief Executive Officer

Jimé Essink joined UBM Asia as Chief Executive Officer in November 2007 and was appointed President & Chief Executive Officer in March 2009. He has more than 25 years’ experience of leading and growing B2B media businesses in emerging and developed markets throughout Asia and Europe. Jimé was previously with VNU Exhibitions as CEO of VNU Exhibitions Europe and President of VNU Exhibitions Asia. Before joining VNU, he spent seven years as Managing Director of Miller Freeman Netherlands (now UBM EMEA), UBM Asia’s sister company in Europe. This office was responsible for the very successful international food ingredients and pharmaceutical ingredients shows in Europe, Asia, South and North America and other international shows in Eastern Europe, Scandinavia and the Netherlands. Jimé studied private and commercial law in Utrecht, the Netherlands.

Michael Duck – Executive Vice President

Michael Duck is responsible for the fashion, beauty and maritime groups and also trade fair activities in India and China. He is also a Director of Shanghai UBM Sinoexpo International Exhibition Co Ltd, a member of the UBM Asia group of companies. Michael has worked in the UK, New Zealand, Italy, Australia, Belgium, Greece and Hong Kong. Prior to joining UBM Asia in 1994, he was trading director for the Vestey Group based in Hong Kong. He is a member of the Executive Committee and Treasurer of UFI (The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry – Paris based); Honorary President of the Federation of Beauty Industry (H.K.); member of Executive Committee of the Hong Kong Exhibition and Convention Industry Association and Asia/Africa and Travel/Tourism Committees of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce.

Christopher Eve – Senior Vice President

Chris Eve began his career in the exhibition industry in 1992 when he opened the Tokyo office of the Hong Kong Trade Fair Group and launched their first exhibition in Japan. In 1994, HKTFG was acquired by Miller Freeman (now UBM Asia), since then Chris has built up the exhibitions and publishing business in Japan through series of new launches and acquisitions. In addition to Japan, Chris is responsible for UBM's operations in Korea, Taiwan and South East Asia. Prior to joining the exhibitions industry, Chris trained and served as a navigating officer with the Cunard Steamship Company and also worked as a stock trader with a Japanese securities company in the City of London. Chris is fluent in Japanese, having graduated with a dual degree in Japanese and Business Studies from Sheffield University, England.

Mike Tan – Senior Vice President

Mike has operational and management experience in the publishing, events and online media industry across a large number of industry sectors. Currently based in UBM Asia's headquarters in Hong Kong, he has been with the company since 1994. During this time he successfully undertook a wide variety of management tasks, including as General Manager for UBM Asia's China business based in Shanghai, as General Manager for the trade show business in Singapore and Indonesia, plus the management of some of UBM Asia's major events and publications as well as corporate work including research and online development. In his current Business Development role he functions as part of a team seeking acquisitions, partnerships, collaborative opportunities and new launches, both to grow the business as well as strengthen the existing portfolio. Mike also has concurrent responsibility for the Beauty Group.

Wolfram Diener – Senior Vice President

Wolfram Diener is responsible for the jewellery portfolio which comprises exhibitions, print titles and portal sites as well as UBM Asia’s businesses in Shanghai, Beijing, Hangzhou and Turkey. He has more than 18 years’ experience of working for the leading companies in the exhibition industry and in the emerging and developed markets in Asia, including China, Hong Kong and Macau. Wolfram was previously with The Venetian in Macau as Vice President, Conventions & Exhibitions. Before joining The Venetian, he was General Manager of the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC) where he established professional management teams and also successfully grew the businesses of these two newly developed venues. He started in Asia as Managing Director of Messe Frankfurt based in Hong Kong. Wolfram studied business management at the University of Applied Sciences, Pforzheim, Germany.

Suzan Kalim – Senior Vice President (Human Resources)

Suzan has extensive HR experience and is involved in various HR functions, including the implementation of best HR practices in UBM Asia offices in the region. She also focuses on building a high performance culture in UBM Asia which plays a vital role in UBM’s global strategy. Suzan has devouted tremendous efforts in building a corporate HR culture to support the growth of the company through the “people” at UBM Asia. Born in Indonesia, and with her extensive academic experiences in Indonesia, Singapore, Macau, Hong Kong and the United Kingdom, Suzan leads UBM Asia’s HR teams across the region in effectively handling the unique challenges of East vs. West, given the vast range of cultural differences at UBM Asia. Suzan is a professional member of the Hong Kong Institute of Human Resources Management.

Margaret Ma Connolly – Vice President

Margaret spearheads the development in several market sectors including child-baby-maternity, healthcare, advance manufacturing, aviation and business technology. The diverse portfolios are comprised of trade exhibitions, print publications, new media platforms as well as marketing services. Geographically she focuses on growing the businesses in Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou and Shenzhen with joint management responsibilities for the geo-adaptations in Asia and EMEA. Prior to joining UBM, she held senior management positions at TNT and Global Sources with P&L responsibilities and track record in business planning, strategic investment and product development. In addition, Margaret has extensive experience in management consulting and online development. She is the co-founder of the leading online expat community ShanghaiExpat.com. Margret is a graduate of Oxford Brooks Business School with MBA degree and certifications in Project Management, Information System Management and Web Development.
