Rehabilitation

The Society of Rehabilitation and Crime Prevention

 

UBM Asia supported the Society to provide rehabilitation services for ex-offenders to re-establish themselves in society, to lead a fulfilling life and to participate in community-wide crime prevention activities.

   
Rotary Club of Hong Kong Golden Jubilee Fund Ltd 
  This project aimed to help to rehabilitate children who were psychologically traumatised due to the 2004 tsunami in Thailand. By providing new school buildings, books and other learning materials and equipment, it helped about 100 school children aged from 4 to 12 in the Khao Lak area of Phang-nga province, one of the most affected regions of the tsunami disaster to resume their studies. Oxfam Hong Kong
 

In support of the Society, UBM Asia contributed to the work against poverty, distress and suffering. The latest support is to the Sichuan earthquake victims, who are suffering shortage of food, drinking water, medical supplies and other emergency aid. 

   
Caring Company Award 
 

UBM Asia was awarded a Caring Company for the sixth year for providing training and work opportunities for ex-mentally ill and physically handicapped persons. The award is commendation to companies and organisations that have been caring for the community. 

   
Chi Heng Foundation
 
UBM supported Chi Heng Foundation to provide services to AIDS impacted children in China and arranged a promotion stand at Cosmoprof Asia for Chi Heng Foundation to promote its servies to the international business community.

Donations and Funds

Pearl Retrieval Programme

 

UBM China has joined the Pearl Retrieval Programme organised by the Zhe Jiang Xinhua Compassion Education Foundation. Around 20 UBM China staff donated clothing and shoes to selected students from poor families on Daliang Mountain in Sichuan province who have outstanding academic performance.  The programme aims to ensure an adequate standard of living for the students.

 

   

   
Support for Disabled Artist
 

UBM Sinoexpo, UBM Asia’s joint-venture company based in Shanghai, made a donation to Mr Dong Dalin, a disabled elocutionist in Shanghai, to help him achieve his dream and improve his living standards. Mr Dong was invited to give a speech about encouragement and inspiration to the UBM Sinoexpo colleagues at the annual meeting in December 2011.

 
 
   
UBM Sinoexpo IEMS Scholarship
 

UBM Sinoexpo set up a scholarship with the School of Tourism and Event Management, Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade in 2009, with the aim of awarding and encouraging International Events Management Shanghai (IEMS) students with good academic performance and those who take an active part in social practices. Over 50 students have benefited from the scholarship.

 
   
Support for Disadvantaged Individual
  UBM China (Guangzhou) contributed by donating a used computer to Hong Jie’s family.  Hong Jie lives in Guangzhou and her husband passed away in 2000 due to Lupus Erythematosus. From then on she and her daughter lived on the meagre income from her hard work. Her daughter successfully got into Guangdong Pharmaceutical University in 2011 and the computer helps her a lot with the schoolwork.
     
   
Operation Smile China Medical Mission
 

UBM Asia supported the organisation to provide free medical treatment for children and young adults who are born with cleft lips, cleft palates or both in China. It organises medical missions to rural areas and sets up its first charity hospital in Hangzhou to provide free reconstructive services.

 
   
Child Relief & You  
  UBM Asia contributed to the organisation’s work of amplifying the voice of India's children and their rights, by initiating and organising campaigns which range from influencing child-friendly policies to rehabilitation efforts in disaster and natural calamities to create awareness on the situation of children.
   
Akanksha Foundation
 

UBM Asia supported the foundation to provide less-privileged children in India with balanced education, training and skills that focus on both intellectual and emotion development, to enable them to maximise their potential that would change their lives. The foundation runs 58 Akanksha education centres and six schools across India.

   
Community Outreach Programme
 

UBM Asia is committed to serving groups in need. We made a donation to CORP which provides education programmes, shelters, self-help groups and vocational training, etc for the holistic development of women, children, and the communities in Mumbai, India.

   
UNICEF
 

11 UBM Asia staff members teamed up to join the UNICEF Charity Run 2010 (10km race) in support to raise fund for UNICEF’s 'Unite for Children. Unite against AIDS' global campaign. The goal of the campaign was to enhance public awareness of the global issue of children and HIV/AIDS.

   
   
Médecins Sans Frontières 
 

With great support from our staff, we made a donation to MSF, an international humanitarian aid organisation that provides emergency medical assistance to populations in danger in more than 70 countries. 

   
Children's Cancer Foundation
 
UBM Asia contributed to the organisation's efforts to increase survival rates and enhance the quality of life of all children suffering from cancer, in caring for their physical, psychological and social well-being.

Educations

Meixi Village Primary School Building Construction Project

 

The project aims to provide a safe learning environment for the students and teachers in the Meixi Village Primary School, a school with endangerd building in a poorest village in Yangbi, Dali in the Yunnan province. With the donation from UBM Asia, a three-level six-classroom school with a sanitary toilet has been built to serve the needs of 170 students and 14 teachers in the area.

Environmental Protection 

Friends of the Earth

 

UBM Asia's Oxygen team completed the journey of 13.5 km by planting 50 trees within five hours in the Tree Planting Challenge 2011 organised by Friends of the Earth. Team members were from the Jewellery Exhibition Department. This event was organised to plant as many trees as possible on mountains to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide. Participants were given a very tough mission of carrying seedlings and planting tools uphill, digging pits, planting trees on the slope and completing a designated hiking course within six hours.

NGO India

 

UBM India organises NGO India to foster alliances and networking between the country's CSR and NGO communities. NGO India is a non-profit initiative designed to allow NGOs based in India and overseas to network, share best practices and positively engage with key stakeholders from domestic and international corporations, local and national governments and the general public. National Road Safety Drive
 

The drive aims to raise awareness among the India public on safe driving. UBM India contributed by joining hands with the Mumbai Traffic Police, creating sign boards which highlight the safety rules/regulations and are placed at strategic locations to attract the attention of drivers.

     
   
Blood Donation Programme
 

We encourage our staff at our Hong Kong office to participate in blood donation for community supply, and we get much support from our staff every year.
